ACCUTRON REASEARCH and IDENTIFICATION---Page 1

This site is intended to aid in research of Accutron Timepieces (with a sampling of other brands of Tuning fork watches). I will add watches as time permits and welcome contributions from others. The added comments are personal observations based on over 30 years of servicing Accutrons. Click on the thumbnails for larger pic. HUM ON!

Here is the ill fated Swissonic. Max Hertzel was ready to mass produce these but Bulova invoked their tuning fork patent protection. Note the unusual design of the tuning fork. There are maybe three running examples of this watch today.

Here is a picture from an Omega SSIH training booklet with a picture of the Beta 21 Quartz tuning fork movement (on the left), circa 1970's.
Here is an Omega case, likely for  the Beta 21 Quartz tuning fork movement (above), circa 1970's. The case numbers are 196.0055 and 396.0841.
Thanks to Gary Clark for this:

Many people don't know it but Timex in the 50's pursued a tuning fork watch. Here in my town of Paso Robles California I met a guy that worked at a missile guidance company here in the 50's and they made tuning forks
for missiles and things. Timex had this company make a prototype for them and he told me that they made 4 or 5 of the prototypes running. I have tried to obtain one of them but so far nothing but the person did give me a partial movement which has the outer diameter plate and the inner plate which has 3 sets of flat steel pieces that were the tuning forks. The inner part actually vibrated inside of the outer diameter plate and all the train wheels were inside the inner vibrating plate. I sure wish I had one of the complete movements.
When the prototypes were finished and it got around to how much it was going to cost to produce them Timex decided to go with the electric balance movement I believe was produced in Germany. I do believe that Timex started on this project long before Hamilton or Bulova. Here are 2 pictures of the partial movement I have (front
and Back).
